The drummer from Slipknot, Joey Jordison has recently partnered with Ahead to market the Joey Jordison Drum sticks. These are great stick, the ahead version have technology involved in these make them virtually impossible to break. The ProMark version is is made out of wood. Ahead uses (VRS) vibration reduction system to greatly reduce the amount of vibrations that reach the drummer’s hand, in turn reducing the fatigue the drummer feels on their hands. That along with the refined handle diameter will allow you to play faster and longer. Oh Yeah!
Being that Joey Jordison drum sticks is made from a metal allow instead of wood allows them to be balanced a lot better. Wood sticks can have a balance variation up to 20% whereas the allow construction of the ahead drumsticks allow them to have a balance variance of less than 1%. This means that every stick you will feel the same, taking one variable out of your playing, helping you be a better more precise drummer.
These sticks are nearly indestructible, but ahead does have replacement parts to keep them in tip top shape. The shaft of the drumsticks use hard polyurethane covers to help protect your drums as well as the sticks. Constant rim shots and cymbal crashes render any stick damaged after heavy use. No problem for these sticks, simple replace the polyurethane covers and you are playing again in 30 seconds flat.
They have also incorporated replaceable tips on these sticks. The high impact nylon tips are the old nylon tips that we all remember. Remember playing wood sticks with nylon tips and constantly losing the tips? I know we have all had it happen to us, but that a thing of the past. These nylon tips screw onto the stick and come in a bunch of different shapes, even mallets. Whatever your style, they have a tip to fit your needs.
TIP: When fastening your nylon tips to the stick, put a small drop of super glue on first. This will make sure the tips don’t loosen over time when playing. When you want to replace the nylon tips of the polyurethane shafts, simple use a pliers to break the hold of the glue.

Yes, these are a bit more expensive than the wood counterpart, but they are well worth it. Imagine not having to worry about breaking a stick during a song, can you put a price on that. How many times have you gotten to a heavy part in a song just to have a stick break on you? We all know the drill, try to keep the snare and bass beat while you dramatically grab for another stick. Even if you do end up keeping the beat, people can still hear that part of the drum set dropped out. They last too, some say they would go through five to six pairs or the old wood sticks during the time Joey Jordison drumsticks last. In the long run you should save money, and play better to boot.
These sticks have all the things you are looking for in a drumstick: features, quality, value, and sound.
Joey doesn’t have his name on these sticks anymore, but fear not they are still in production under a different name, part # JJ1 – Speed Metal (MT). Same drumstick different name
ProMark is now the company that he endorces
